The WRTM programme is undergoing an expansion from a single model (the WRTM strategic model) to a suite of models. The expanded WRTM programme looks to deliver greater efficiency and effectiveness of investment decision-making through more specific modelling tools. This is in recognition that over time the needs of infrastructure owners have evolved to require more detailed assessments for project option testing, and most recently into changing national and local policy changes.

The objective of the HTM is to provide greater confidence informing transport and land use decisions in the Hamilton metropolitan area using existing and future transport demands from the WRTM.
The release of the HTM is anticipated to be in 2024.
